CARSYS thickness gauges
Nine kits built around five gauges. Every one of them is a professional instrument: a combined probe, automatic metal recognition under the coating, accuracy from one per cent. What differs is not the class of the gauge but its equipment and the job it is built for.

A familiar instrument on the outside, renewed electronics inside: the CARSYS internals are reworked every year. Everything on this page is built to the current revision, not cleared from a shelf of earlier batches.

Tell us what the gauge is for
A thickness gauge is chosen by the work it will do every day, not by the model name. Pick a job — or go straight to a line if you already know the model.

Nine kits
Within a line the gauges all measure the same — the box contents change. Each card states which kit it is and what that kit adds to the base one.

Why CARSYS
Six reasons people choose this gauge
None of the claims below is about "quality and reliability" — each one rests on a function of the instrument or a figure from its datasheet.
Zinc detection
Helps spot a replaced panel
Factory galvanising can’t be faked with a repaint — it’s either there or it isn’t. The gauge lets you compare neighbouring panels: one bare panel among galvanised ones. Matching paint thickness alone doesn’t mean "original panel".
Fe / NFe
Identifies the metal on its own
Steel wing, aluminium bonnet — the gauge works it out for you. Picking the wrong mode and getting a false reading is not possible.
0.3 s
A fraction of a second per reading
In continuous mode it drops to 0.125 seconds, 8 readings per second. A full walk-around fits into a few minutes, notes included.
−25 °C
Works in the cold
An inspection in a January car park does not have to move into a heated bay. The lower limit depends on the model: −25 °C on the DPM-816 line and −30 °C on the AVTOPODBOR line.
Omsk
Our own production
The gauge is designed and assembled in Russia. Warranty repair and verification happen in-country, not across an ocean.
Up to lifetime
Warranty and support
The term depends on the model: from one to three years, and on the AVTOPODBOR line a lifetime warranty with manufacturer service. A gauge is a tool, not a consumable.
An honest comparison
What separates a professional gauge from a “professional” one
On the marketplaces every gauge calls itself professional — the word costs nothing and answers for nothing. What differs is the hardware under the case. Six places where the difference shows on the first awkward measurement.
One coil instead of two methods
A no-name gauge usually runs a single eddy-current method: on steel it judges indirectly, so it misses by tens of microns — 50 to 100 µm is not unusual — and the result shifts with the grade of steel. CARSYS uses a combined probe: magnetic induction for steel, eddy current for non-ferrous metals.
How the probes differA plastic tip on a rigid shaft
With a rigid probe the contact force is whatever your hand gives it — and the reading goes with it. The CARSYS tip is spherical, made of heat-treated high-strength steel and spring-loaded: the force evens out by itself, so a door edge or a curved pillar reads like a flat panel. A plastic tip also wears down, and the calibration wears away with it.
Winter readings drift
Temperature instability is the standard failing of cheap electronics: out in the cold the gauge no longer holds the setting it was given indoors. CARSYS puts the lower limit in the data sheet — −25 °C for the DPM-816 line, −30 °C for the AVTOPODBOR. A stated limit, not “works until the first frost”.
Calibrate for ferrous or for non-ferrous — pick one
A single-coil gauge has one setting for both metals: calibrate on steel and aluminium reads wrong; calibrate on aluminium and steel does. CARSYS recognises the metal itself (Fe / NFe) and keeps a separate calibration for each — and a steel and an aluminium base ship in every box.
“No calibration needed”
That is not a feature, it is the absence of one. The setting drifts on its own: the electronics and the tip age, and different grades of steel have different magnetic properties, so changing metal knocks the point off. A one-point calibration only fixes zero and says nothing about what happens at 100 or at 500 microns. The AVTOPODBOR calibrates on 1–10 points with memory, the DPM-816 on 1–8, and the PRO and industrial builds add the calibration table (mode P).
Adjusted readings
A cheap gauge is often tuned not for accuracy but for the look of it: the result is pulled towards a round number, and on a 100-micron foil it returns exactly 100 every single time. In real measurement there is always spread between neighbouring spots — and that spread is the working information: it shows an uneven coat, the edge of filler, the border of a repair. Adjustment wipes the spread away and the panel looks smoother than it is. CARSYS reports what it measured, at a resolution of one micron.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How do the gauges differ from each other?
The measuring part is shared across the lineup: a combined probe, automatic metal recognition, one-micron resolution. What differs is the equipment and the job. AVTOPODBOR and AVTOPODBOR-M let you tune the threshold of the filler and zinc detectors — that is inspection work. The DPM-816 PRO adds a programmable calibration table and industrial modes. The industrial DPM-816 ships state-verified, with the verification procedure.
How do the kits of one gauge differ?
Only in the box contents: the gauge, the probe and the accuracy are identical. AvtoPlus is the core equipment, AvtoBig adds a storage pouch, AvtoMax adds a gift box on top. The DPM-816 works the same way: ProPlus is the core equipment, COMBO adds a leather case, a carrying bag and a gift box. The full contents of every kit are in the table above.
Will the gauge tell filler from a thick coat of lacquer?
Yes — every gauge meant for body inspection carries a magnetic filler detector that flags filler separately instead of reporting one combined thickness. On the AVTOPODBOR line the trigger threshold can also be tuned to a particular car. The exception is the industrial DPM-816: it has no body-repair detectors, metrology does not need them.
Do I need state verification?
You need it where a measurement carries legal weight: quality control, laboratories, incoming inspection, expert appraisal. That is what the industrial DPM-816 build is for — it is listed in the Russian State Register of Measuring Instruments and ships with a data sheet, a verification mark and the verification procedure. Checking a car before you buy it needs none of that.
Does the gauge work in the cold?
Yes. An inspection in a January car park is an ordinary scenario, so the lower temperature limit is stated for every gauge: −30 °C on the AVTOPODBOR line, −25 °C on the rest. The exact figure for each model is in the gauge comparison table.
Which gauge should I take for vehicle inspection?
Look at the AVTOPODBOR: it is built for walking around a body — an adjustable detector threshold, a turbo mode for a quick walk-around, a torch and a colour hint. If you want reports and a measurement history on your phone, take the AVTOPODBOR-M with Bluetooth. If versatility beyond car bodies matters more, take the DPM-816 PRO.
