A verified thickness gauge for QC, laboratories and production
When a measurement goes into a document, the gauge and the number are not enough — you need clearance to use it. The industrial CARSYS DPM-816 is entered in the Russian State Register of Measuring Instruments and ships with a passport carrying a primary verification mark.

A gauge whose measurement goes into a document
The industrial CARSYS DPM-816 is entered in the Russian State Register of Measuring Instruments under number 74814-19 and is cleared for use where the result of a measurement carries legal weight.
The kit is called “With verification” and differs from the other versions not in the electronics but in what comes with it: a passport bearing a primary verification mark and the verification procedure. That is the difference it is bought for.

The primary verification mark is valid for one year from the date of verification. After that the gauge undergoes periodic verification at an accredited organisation — the procedure for it is included in the kit, so there is nothing extra to order.

Measurement
Measuring range0–3000 µm
A factory finish is usually 80–150 µm, a respray noticeably more, and filler repairs run past a thousand. The upper limit exists for those spots: at the ceiling the gauge would stop telling thick repairs from very thick ones.
Accuracy±1% + 1 µm (0–500); ±1% + 10 µm (501–3000)
The first number is a share of the reading itself, the second a fixed addition. On a thin factory layer the addition dominates; on thick repairs the percentage does. That is why it is given per band rather than as one averaged figure.

The step by which the number on screen changes. The gauge does not show differences finer than this step. It should not be confused with accuracy — they are different things.

How long the gauge thinks over one spot. Inspecting a car means dozens of touches, and fractions of a second add up to minutes at the bonnet.

A magnetic probe works on steel, an eddy-current one on aluminium. A combined probe holds both principles in one tip and therefore suits cars with mixed bodywork.

The metals the gauge measures coating on. Gauges of this type do not work on plastic bumpers or fibreglass at all: there is no metal to measure the thickness from.

The visible screen area. The gauge is held at arm’s length by a sill or inside an arch, so digit size matters more than the number of lines.

The limits within which the manufacturer stands behind the readings. Inspections in freezing yards are routine, so the lower limit matters more than the upper.

The period during which the manufacturer repairs or replaces the gauge. It runs from purchase, so keep the receipt.
Filler and galvanising detectors are not declared for this version: they solve the task of inspecting a car body and are fitted to the gauges built for it. Here the gauge measures coating thickness to a procedure — on different substrates and different coatings.
When verification is needed and when it is not
Verification is not a mark of quality but clearance to be used in certain work. Saying so plainly is more honest than selling it to everyone.

In that work a measurement carries no legal weight, and verification adds nothing to it. For those jobs there are gauges built for the walk-around — with filler and galvanising detectors.

- Incoming inspectionChecking a batch of stock and coated parts before it goes into production: does the thickness match what the supplier declared.
- Outgoing inspectionMeasuring after a coating is applied — to a procedure and with the result recorded, rather than by eye.
- Different substratesSteel, cast iron, aluminium, galvanised steel and non-ferrous metals: the gauge recognises the substrate itself, and calibration is separate for each.
- A whole batchComparison mode: a reference value is set, and the screen then shows the deviation from it rather than an absolute figure for every part.
Manufacturing and service
The gauge is designed and assembled in Omsk: the board, the sensor and the firmware are our own development, not somebody else’s product resold under our name.
Which brings a practical point for procurement: both service and periodic verification happen inside the country. The gauge does not need to be sent abroad for repair or for verification.

Which CARSYS gauges are in the State Register?
The DPM-816 type is entered in the Russian State Register of Measuring Instruments, approval No. 74814-19. There is one verified version — the industrial one, the “With verification” kit. The PRO and LITE models have no verified version, and verification must not be claimed for them.

Do I need verification to check cars before buying?

They are not declared for the industrial version. The detectors solve the task of inspecting a car body and are fitted to the gauges built for it — the AVTOPODBOR line and the DPM-816 PRO, LITE and COMBO.
