No. The gauge is set at the factory and is ready to work straight away. Reference plates come in the kit: use them to check accuracy and, if needed, adjust the thickness — after long service, for example, or after a long idle period.

It lets you adjust thickness flexibly, with no sequences to memorise: useful if a drift has appeared over long service, or if you need to match a particular grade of steel or non-ferrous alloy. Enter the setup mode and measure the reference plates in any order — one or several; the gauge works out the point number and their count itself. If the result differs, correct it with the up and down buttons.

Because of the edge effect: the metal edge must not come closer than 5–10 millimetres to the edge of the probe. Reference plates are small, so for a correct thickness setup you measure strictly in the centre and identically on every plate. The kit includes a centring plate for exactly this — it holds the probe right in the middle.

Usually there are several reasons. Readings are taken at different spots on the plate, and a plate can be uneven — the tolerance is printed on its own marking, typically one per cent. Readings are taken off-centre on the base from the kit, and the edge effect creeps in again. Dust is left between the plates or under the base — keep the plates clean and wipe them with a soft lint-free cloth. And finally: the probe must be pressed flat, without skew, and not moved until the measurement ends. Smart automatic measurement waits for the gauge to be still, but if you shift it during the measurement itself the reading will be inaccurate. When holding it steady is not possible, switch the turbo mode off or work in continuous mode.

They show the substrate under the coating and the method used. “ЧЕР.МЕТ” is ferrous metal, measured by magnetic induction. “ЦВ.МЕТ” is non-ferrous metal, measured by eddy current. “ЧЕР.МЕТ+ЦИНК” means ferrous metal with galvanising detected under the paint.

Yes, on the AVTOPODBOR line. You set two limits, a minimum and a maximum, and enable a warning sound for each of them separately. On top of that you can pick a colour of the LED assistant for each limit.

It depends on the line. On the AVTOPODBOR, hold the setup button with the gear icon until calibration mode opens, then press and hold it once more until the beep. On the DPM-816, wait for the dashes on the display and press and hold the “ВНИЗ/UNIT” button.

It depends on the model. The AVTOPODBOR and the DPM-816 with a Russian display write “ЧЕР.МЕТ+ЦИНК”. The DPM-816 with the export English display shows “FeNFe” — a non-ferrous coating over ferrous metal.

With a triple warning beep — that sounds on every line. On the AVTOPODBOR the red LED of the colour assistant also flashes; on the DPM-816 with a Russian display the “МЕТ.ШПАТЛ” icon appears. On the export English display only the sound remains.
