Support
For the life of the instrument
A familiar instrument on the outside, up-to-date electronics inside: the CARSYS internals are updated every year. This listing is built to the current revision, not cleared from a shelf of earlier batches.
Who it suits
Who it suits
For a one-off purchase
The gauge pays for itself on the first find: a panel resprayed after a crash knocks more off the price than the gauge costs.
For inspections on the road
A walk-around takes a few minutes, and the red body gets lost neither in a glovebox nor in the snow. It runs on a single AAA cell, and a spare fits in a pocket.
For a paint shop or a home garage
Checking your own work: whether the coat went on evenly and whether it matches the untouched panel next to it. Thickness can be set up for your own metal — up to eight points, and the gauge remembers it.
To keep in the car
A bright red body always to hand for a quick check — of your own car or one you are looking to buy.
Benefits
What it gives you when checking a car
The gauge names the filler itself
Magnetic filler exists to fool thickness gauges: iron powder in the binder hides the repair behind a respectable 100–150 microns. LITE checks every reading for it and sounds a triple warning beep when it finds it. You get a verdict, not just a number: the panel has been rebuilt.
Galvanising gives away a non-original panel
Factory body panels are usually galvanised; a cheap replacement often is not. The gauge tells ferrous metal under a non-ferrous layer: where the galvanising disappears but the neighbouring panels have it, the panel has been changed.
It works out the metal itself
Steel under the paint or aluminium — the gauge picks the method without you. Each method has its own sound, so you hear the substrate type without looking at the screen: a mixed-body walk-around runs without stops.
A probe that forgives your hand
A movable spherical tip of hardened steel with stabilised contact force: a curved wing and a concave pillar are measured without tilting. The gauge catches the moment of measurement itself — there are no mechanical switches under the probe to wear out.
A special protective body coating
The red body carries a special protective coating: it does not scratch, does not collect fingerprints and does not slip in the hand. Nor does it get lost in the glovebox, where the gauge usually lives.
Up to 3500 microns, two-percent accuracy
Across the first 500 microns the accuracy is ±(2% + 1) µm — that is where the factory finish sits and where "resprayed or not" is decided. Beyond that the range covers a thick layer of filler: the gauge does not hit its ceiling on bodywork.
Works in the cold
−25 °C: an inspection in a winter car park need not move into a heated bay.

Anatomy
What the gauge is made of
Hover a list item — the matching point lights up on the gauge.

Wrist strap loop
A mount at the top of the case keeps the gauge on your wrist, so it is not dropped while working under the hood or on a lift.
Three buttons under your thumb
Modes, units and power switch without lifting the gauge off the panel or reaching over with your other hand.
Contoured grip
Smooth curves in the body settle into the palm and give your fingers extra purchase — the gauge does not twist even when held one-handed in a glove.
21×34 mm backlit display
Large digits plus a status line: mode, metal type and the presence of zinc are visible alongside the reading.
Spring-loaded probe with a steel tip
The probe is sprung and self-aligns to the surface, so a reading on a curved wing or a door crease stays correct.

Measurement
Measuring range0–3500 µm
A factory finish is usually 80–150 µm, a respray noticeably more, and filler repairs run past a thousand. The upper limit exists for those spots: at the ceiling the gauge would stop telling thick repairs from very thick ones.
Accuracy±2% + 1 µm (0–500); ±2% + 10 µm (501–3500)
The first number is a share of the reading itself, the second a fixed addition. On a thin factory layer the addition dominates; on thick repairs the percentage does. That is why it is given per band rather than as one averaged figure.
Resolution1 µm
The step by which the number on screen changes. The gauge does not show differences finer than this step. It should not be confused with accuracy — they are different things.
Reading time0.3 s · 0.125 s continuous
How long the gauge thinks over one spot. Inspecting a car means dozens of touches, and fractions of a second add up to minutes at the bonnet.
Probe typeCombined (Fe / NFe)
A magnetic probe works on steel, an eddy-current one on aluminium. A combined probe holds both principles in one tip and therefore suits cars with mixed bodywork.
SubstratesSteel, Cast iron, Aluminium, Galvanised steel
The metals the gauge measures coating on. Gauges of this type do not work on plastic bumpers or fibreglass at all: there is no metal to measure the thickness from.
Unitsµm / mm / mil
Micrometres are standard in Russia and Europe, mils in American paperwork. One mil is 25.4 µm, so foreign reports need no mental arithmetic.
The instrument
Display21×34 mm, backlit
The visible screen area. The gauge is held at arm’s length by a sill or inside an arch, so digit size matters more than the number of lines.
Dimensions104×43×29 mm
Length, width and height of the body. They decide whether the gauge fits a jacket pocket and slips into the gap between an open door and the pillar.
Weight without battery60 g
The weight of the body itself. With batteries fitted the gauge is heavier — worth remembering when comparing figures from different sources.
PowerLR03/AAA
The battery type. Standard cells can be swapped on the road and bought at any filling station, unlike a proprietary pack.
Auto power-offYes
The gauge switches itself off if left on in a pocket or a bag. Without it, flat batteries are discovered exactly when the gauge is needed.
Conditions and warranty
Operating temperature-25…+40 °C
The limits within which the manufacturer stands behind the readings. Inspections in freezing yards are routine, so the lower limit matters more than the upper.
Humidityup to 80%
The upper humidity limit for measurements. Inspecting in the rain or straight after a wash is exactly this case.
Warranty1 year
The period during which the manufacturer repairs or replaces the gauge. It runs from purchase, so keep the receipt.
A factory finish sits at roughly 80–160 microns, a resprayed panel gives 200–300, and anything above 500 almost certainly means filler and bodywork under the paint. The gauge shows that number in a second — all that is left is to walk around the car. The body’s protective coating survives a glovebox and a jacket pocket, and the red is easy to spot in the snow or in a dim workshop.

Why CARSYS
What sets the gauge apart
Zinc detection
Helps spot a replaced panel
Factory galvanising can’t be faked with a repaint — it’s either there or it isn’t. The gauge lets you compare neighbouring panels: one bare panel among galvanised ones. Matching paint thickness alone doesn’t mean "original panel".
Fe / NFe
Identifies the metal on its own
Steel wing, aluminium bonnet — the gauge works it out for you. Picking the wrong mode and getting a false reading is not possible.
0.3 s
A fraction of a second per reading
In continuous mode it drops to 0.125 seconds, 8 readings per second. A full walk-around fits into a few minutes, notes included.
−25 °C
Works in the cold
An inspection in a January car park does not have to move into a heated bay. The upper limit is plus 40.

Manufacturer warranty of 1 year, plus advice for the life of the instrument. A gauge is a tool, not a consumable.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How is LITE different from PRO?
The measuring principle and the combined probe are the same. The difference is accuracy and equipment: LITE is accurate to two percent against one on the PRO, the factory warranty is one year against three, and there is no industrial calibration map that lets the PRO switch quickly between different metals. For checking a car before you buy, that is enough.
Does it detect filler and galvanising?
Yes, LITE has both detectors. The trigger threshold is not adjustable — the manufacturer sets the sensitivity to find repairs without false alarms: the gauge does not read ferrous metal coated with aluminium or copper as galvanising. Magnetic filler is flagged with a triple warning beep.
What coating thickness counts as normal?
The factory finish on most cars sits within 80–200 microns, and the spread between panels of one car should not exceed 20 percent. Twice the average means a second coat of paint; more than twice means the panel was prepared with filler. Do not trust published thickness tables — take the roof of the same car as your reference.
Why does the gauge beep differently?
Each measuring method has its own sound, so the substrate under the paint is clear by ear — no need to turn the screen towards you. The triple beep stands apart: it is a warning about magnetic filler.
How do I compare neighbouring panels?
The gauge has a comparison mode. Measure the panel you take as the reference (usually the roof) and hold the "UNIT" button for two seconds — "CAL" appears on the screen. From then on the gauge shows the deviation from the reference rather than the thickness. The reference is stored separately for ferrous and non-ferrous metal.
Does it need calibrating?
Auto-calibration runs at every power-on — the gauge adjusts to the conditions on its own. A thickness setup against the reference plates and metal bases from the kit is needed before first use and after a long break: up to eight points are stored in non-volatile memory, so there is no need to repeat it before every inspection.
Does it work in the cold?
Yes, down to −25 °C. A winter inspection outdoors does not have to move into a heated bay.
Does the reading stay visible in bright sun, or does the screen wash out?
It stays visible. The display is a monochrome FSTN LCD: it works on reflected light rather than emitting its own, so in direct sun the figures only gain contrast. That is what separates an LCD from a colour screen, which on a clear day you end up reading in the shade of your hand. In a bay, under cover or in the evening the backlight takes over: it comes on at the press of a button and switches itself off after a minute of inactivity. The gauge is rated down to −25 °C, so a winter inspection is not off the table either.
